Heading Structure Explained

Headings create the outline of a page. H1 is the main topic, H2s are major sections, H3s are subsections, and so on. Screen reader users navigate by headings the way sighted users scan by visual hierarchy. When headings skip levels or are used for styling instead of structure, that navigation breaks down. Every page should have exactly one H1. Headings should follow a logical order without skipping levels. If you need bigger text, use CSS, not a heading tag.
